Why Cycle Support Is Non-Negotiable on a Prohormone Cycle

Prohormones and designer compounds produce anabolic effects through pathways that impose physiological cost on specific organ systems — costs that accrue over the duration of a cycle and can produce lasting damage if left unaddressed. The three primary areas of concern for most prohormone users are liver health, cardiovascular health (specifically blood pressure and lipid profile changes), and prostate health. Gear Support addresses all three simultaneously.†

Liver stress is the most commonly discussed concern with oral prohormones. Most oral prohormones are 17-alpha alkylated or otherwise modified to survive first-pass hepatic metabolism — the modification that makes them orally bioavailable also makes them more difficult for the liver's cytochrome P450 enzyme system to process and eliminates. Over a cycle duration, this hepatic workload increases liver enzyme levels (ALT, AST) and can progress to cellular damage if the liver's antioxidant and detoxification capacity is not supported.†

Cardiovascular changes — elevated blood pressure, shifts in HDL/LDL balance favoring higher LDL and lower HDL, and increased blood viscosity — are consistent effects of androgenic compound use and require active management during a cycle to prevent cumulative cardiovascular risk.†

Prostate health is a concern specifically with compounds that convert to DHT (dihydrotestosterone), the primary androgenic driver of prostate cell proliferation. Not all prohormones convert to DHT, but sufficient androgenic stimulation of prostate tissue from any source warrants prostate-protective support during a cycle.†

Ingredient Deep Dive

N-Acetyl L-Cysteine (NAC) — 400mg

NAC is the acetylated, orally bioavailable form of L-Cysteine — an amino acid that is the rate-limiting precursor to glutathione, the body's most abundant endogenous antioxidant. When NAC is absorbed and converted to Cysteine in the body, it replenishes the cysteine pool available for glutathione synthesis in the liver — directly increasing hepatic glutathione levels and thereby enhancing the liver's capacity to neutralize free radicals, oxidative metabolites, and toxins produced during the processing of prohormone compounds.†

NAC's liver-protective mechanism is so well-established that it is the standard medical treatment for acetaminophen (Tylenol) overdose — the toxicity of which is caused by the same hepatic oxidative stress mechanism that prohormone metabolism amplifies, just through a different route. Clinical research on NAC in non-overdose contexts consistently demonstrates reductions in liver enzyme elevations and improvements in markers of hepatic oxidative stress. At 400mg per capsule — up to 800mg per day at the maximum two-capsule dose — Gear Support provides NAC at a meaningful daily dose for liver support. NAC also supports pulmonary health (it is a mucolytic used clinically for respiratory conditions), immune system function, and systemic antioxidant defense beyond the liver.†

Hawthorne Flower and Leaf Extract — 300mg

Hawthorne (Crataegus species) flower and leaf extract is one of the most extensively researched botanical cardiovascular support ingredients in herbal medicine. Its active compounds — oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) and flavonoids — produce several convergent cardiovascular effects: vasodilation of coronary and peripheral blood vessels, positive inotropic effects on heart muscle (increasing contractile force and pumping efficiency), and antioxidant protection of the vascular endothelium.†

The vasodilatory effect of Hawthorne is particularly relevant during a prohormone cycle, where elevated androgens and the accompanying fluid retention and increased blood viscosity can drive blood pressure upward. By dilating coronary arteries, Hawthorne improves blood and oxygen delivery to the heart muscle and reduces the peripheral resistance that drives systolic and diastolic blood pressure elevations. Research on Hawthorne extract supplementation consistently shows meaningful reductions in resting blood pressure, improvements in exercise tolerance, and reductions in resting heart rate in individuals with mild cardiovascular stress — all of which are relevant during the cardiovascular demand of a prohormone cycle combined with resistance training.†

Saw Palmetto — 200mg

Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens) is a small palm native to the southeastern United States whose berry extract is the most widely studied natural inhibitor of 5-alpha reductase — the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT is a highly potent androgen with approximately three to five times the androgenic potency of testosterone at the androgen receptor. In prostate tissue, elevated DHT drives cell proliferation — the mechanism underlying benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and the androgenic component of prostate cancer risk. In scalp hair follicles, DHT drives the miniaturization of hair follicles responsible for male pattern hair loss.†

By inhibiting 5-alpha reductase, Saw Palmetto reduces DHT conversion — protecting prostate tissue from androgenic overstimulation during a cycle and potentially reducing androgenic hair loss risk for users concerned about scalp DHT effects. Research on Saw Palmetto at doses of 160-320mg (standardized extract) consistently shows reductions in BPH symptoms and improvements in urinary flow metrics — the clinical evidence base for its prostate-protective function is among the strongest of any botanical ingredient in the cycle support category.†

Red Clover Extract (30%) — 100mg

Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) is a botanical containing isoflavones — plant-derived compounds with mild estrogen receptor activity. In the context of cycle support, Red Clover's primary utility is cardiovascular: its isoflavone content is associated with improvements in blood lipid profiles (specifically increased HDL and reduced LDL), improved blood vessel elasticity, and a mild diuretic-like effect that can help manage the fluid retention and blood viscosity changes that prohormone use produces. The "blood purification" language historically used to describe Red Clover is a traditional herbal medicine framing that corresponds to its documented effects on improving circulation, reducing blood viscosity, and supporting hepatic clearance of metabolic waste.†

The isoflavone content of Red Clover warrants a note for male prohormone users concerned about estrogenic effects: at 100mg of a 30% standardized extract, the isoflavone dose in Gear Support is well below the threshold associated with meaningful estrogenic activity in men. The cardiovascular benefits are present at this dose without meaningful estrogenic receptor stimulation.†

Celery Extract 4:1 — 75mg

Celery seed extract's primary bioactive compounds are phthalides — a class of aromatic volatile compounds unique to celery that produce measurable antihypertensive effects. The best-studied phthalide in celery is 3-n-butylphthalide (3nB), which produces vasodilation through relaxation of smooth muscle in blood vessel walls and inhibition of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) — a mechanism similar to ACE inhibitor medications used for blood pressure management, but through a natural botanical route. Research on celery seed extract specifically documents reductions in blood pressure in individuals with mild hypertension. At 4:1 concentrate (equivalent to 300mg of whole celery seed per serving), Gear Support's Celery Extract contributes a meaningful phthalide dose for blood pressure support that complements Hawthorne's vasodilatory mechanism through a different pathway.†

Celery extract also exhibits mild liver-protective and anti-inflammatory properties through its antioxidant content, making it a dual-action ingredient in the Gear Support formula — addressing both the cardiovascular and hepatic concerns of a prohormone cycle.†

Grape Seed Extract (95%) — 75mg

Grape seed extract standardized to 95% oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) is one of the most potent natural antioxidant ingredients available — with free radical scavenging capacity significantly exceeding that of Vitamins C and E on a per-weight basis. OPCs protect cells from oxidative damage by directly neutralizing reactive oxygen species before they damage lipid membranes, DNA, and proteins. In the cardiovascular context, Grape Seed Extract improves vascular endothelial function, reduces oxidized LDL levels (the form of LDL cholesterol directly implicated in arterial plaque formation), and improves peripheral circulation. Research on grape seed extract supplementation consistently shows improvements in blood pressure, reductions in LDL oxidation, and improvements in circulation markers — all directly relevant to the cardiovascular stress dimension of a prohormone cycle. The 95% OPC standardization in Gear Support ensures a high-potency, reproducible dose of the bioactive compounds responsible for these effects.†

On-Cycle vs. Year-Round Use

Gear Support is designed for on-cycle use — one to two capsules per day throughout the duration of any prohormone, designer compound, or aggressive supplement cycle. However, all six active ingredients are appropriate for year-round use by anyone who wants daily liver, cardiovascular, and prostate support outside of an active cycle. NAC's liver-supportive antioxidant function, Hawthorne's cardiovascular benefits, and Saw Palmetto's prostate support are all relevant to long-term health maintenance — not just cycle-specific risk mitigation. Blackstone Labs and multiple retailers confirm that Gear Support can and should be taken year-round as a general organ health supplement if desired.†

Frequently Asked Questions About Blackstone Labs Gear Support

  1. Do I need Gear Support even on a mild prohormone cycle?
Yes. Even milder prohormone compounds impose hepatic and cardiovascular stress — the degree differs, but the direction is the same. Halo Elite (phytoandrogen, not a prohormone) does not require cycle support. Blackstone's actual prohormones — Chosen1, Brutal 4ce, AbNORmal, and similar androgenic compounds — all benefit from liver and cardiovascular support throughout the cycle. The cost of not running cycle support is cumulative hepatic enzyme elevation and cardiovascular stress that can produce lasting damage; the cost of running Gear Support is negligible by comparison.†
  2. When should I take Gear Support relative to my prohormone?
Take Gear Support with food at any time of day — morning and evening are the most common split for users taking two capsules daily. There is no specific timing requirement relative to prohormone dosing. The protective effects of NAC, Hawthorne, Saw Palmetto, and the other ingredients are cumulative with consistent daily use rather than acute with a single dose — meaning sustained blood levels matter more than timing relative to any individual prohormone dose.†
  3. Should I continue Gear Support after my cycle ends?
Yes — continuing Gear Support through the post-cycle period (PCT) is common and recommended. The liver and cardiovascular stress from a prohormone cycle does not resolve immediately at the end of the cycle; the body continues clearing prohormone metabolites and normalizing enzyme levels for several weeks post-cycle. Running Gear Support through PCT supports the liver and cardiovascular recovery during this period. Many users continue Gear Support year-round as a daily organ health product after cycling.†
  4. Can women take Gear Support?
Yes — both men and women can take Gear Support. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not. The prostate health dimension is obviously male-specific, but the liver support (NAC), cardiovascular support (Hawthorne, Celery, Red Clover, Grape Seed), and systemic antioxidant protection are fully applicable and beneficial for women. Red Clover's mild isoflavone content may provide additional benefits for women — isoflavones have documented applications in managing hormonal fluctuations during perimenopause, though this is incidental to the primary cycle support purpose.†

Fluffy and Nice Omegaverse
Format: Kindle
… this would have made 5 stars but for 2 reasons. A.) there were quite a few typos; misspelled words, missing quotations, “the his” mistakes, and various signs that maybe a proofread would do good. B.) the writing was quite textbook. Late blooming omega is struggling with her new self, finds a absurdly wealthy pack of alphas, every thing is almost insta-love but she resists, then decides to love herself and let everyone be happy. Rian was my favourite (obviously the author’s favourite too because he got the most page time) but I wish we could see more of his CEO side? He went to work maybe ONCE the entire time. Gray was supposed to be the “growly one” but he turned out to be puppy dog. Lucas was a genius brainiac doctor - but also super alpha with an aggressive hindbrain with a breeding k*nk?? And then there was no actual “breeding”?? Spice 3/5 - normally omegaverse books are super high on messy smut but this was tamer. Romance 3/5 - insta-love that was then resisted because of personal hangup’s Plot 2/5 - weird paced head hopping, showing the same scene from different POV’s that made me feel like it was 2 steps backward, 1 step forward. Humour 4/5 - there were a dozen lines that genuinely made me chuckle out loud Would have been five stars but the lack of proofreading and the predictable plot made me unable to get up to ADORED IT level - four stars is still and official ENJOYED IT, y’all. This isn’t a bad rating. The “Club Heat” has intriguing possibilities so I’m going to give the second one a shot.

Baby bumps and bodyguards
Format: Kindle
Dark, emotional, and unexpectedly tender, Not Ready is an omegaverse romance that delivers found family feels, fierce protectiveness, and a very pregnant heroine who refuses to break. Vale’s on the run from a stalker, but lands in the arms of three private security alphas, cue the swoony tension, fake marriage twist, and slow-burn heat. It’s a little gritty, a little soft, and a whole lot addictive. If you love protective alphas, high stakes, and heroines with quiet strength, this one’s a must-read.

Strong Omegaverse Comfort and a Attention Grabbing Plot
Format: Kindle
Jillian West never misses when it comes to Omegaverse, and Not Ready is no exception. This story was the perfect blend of cozy comfort and emotional depth while still delivering a strong plot. Vale is such a powerful heroine, she is strong, capable, and determined but I love that she still allows her pack to love and take care of her. It’s that balance of independence and vulnerability that makes her so relatable. The relationship dynamics were amazing: Bishop is steadfast and completely head over heels, Mercy is skeptical but protective in his own way, and Holt is the hesitant one whose slow fall is so satisfying to watch unfold. The romance hits that sweet spot between insta-love and cautious build, keeping me hooked the entire way through. And that ending. Oh my god, the cliffhanger! I need the next book in this duet immediately.
